Brilliant Event: Circus Calamitous Part 1

Part 1 of the Circus Calamitous Brilliant Event starts Tuesday, 10 March at 11am PST and runs through 17 March. This event focuses on Fortress Encounters, so brew whatever you need to to help with that. Beyond that, here's a sneak peek to help you prepare for the tasks. (As always, if this is too spoilery for you, just give it a pass.)



For Task 2, you'll need to earn 500 Wizarding XP on Fortress Challenges. Baruffio’s should help. For Task 3, you'll need to unlock 3 Portkeys. For Task 4, you will need to fight several Fortress battles. This includes using three Brilliant Event Runestones, so you may want to save them for this task. Worst of all, we're required to win a challenge at the highest unlocked level. If you've really pushed your limits on these in the past, that can hurt. (Especially if you were Fortressing with others on a level you can't win on your own, and don't have those people available again during this event.

Rewards include 15 green Restricted Section Books, 2 red Spell Books, 1 silver key, 50 gold, a Baruffio’s, a Unicorn Hair and two Hermit Crab Shells.

To prepare: get a jump on things by having two Healing Potions brewed and ready to pick up at the beginning of the event and BREW BARUFFIO'S.

There is a task involving Alohomora casts (see Task 3). To help us with that, some of the Alohomora Trace Encounters will have increased spawns on the map. These are the ones you'll be seeing more often this week:



If they're gating you on your registry pages, now is the time to strike.

Brilliant Portkeys for this event will once again be 3km. As a reminder, Part 1 Portkeys will give you part 1 rewards anytime you open them, even if you wait to open them until during Part 2.


There's a Bonus Assignment after the main tasks are completed. Make sure to look for these in-game.



1500 Wizarding XP from challenges will be the sticky wicket this time out. Again, Baruffio’s should count for that. Unlocking 5 Portkeys is also going to take time and planning, or some silver keys. Plan accordingly. The Tonic for Trace Detection can help you meet the requirements for the Brilliant Foundables and Alohomora casts. Rewards include 3 red Spell Books, 3 Dark Detectors, 3 Potent Exstimulos and 2 silver keys.

As usual, there will be freebies and bundles.

UPDATE: the tweet has since been deleted, but it seems the HPWU team has listened to community complaints and will be changing the fourth set of tasks. Instead of being required to win a challenge at the highest unlocked level, we'll need to earn 1500 Wizarding XP from Challenges. It's unclear if they're swapping this task with the Bonus task. If not, you'll need even more Baruffio’s. Also OrangeWizard was good enough to update the Task infographic. ❤️

There’s a whole lot of Fortress focus in this one. Hopefully that highest level won’t trip any one up! I’m stocked up on potions and spell energy and have healing potions brewing to hang until tomorrow afternoon. Good luck everyone!

I'm trying to work out the maths, time in fortress (especially crucial if we're relying on Baruffio’s) to WXP... What level gives the best return, and I think it ends up being the lower ones... Need to see if I can find accurate current tables, because they'd nerfed it and then buffed other things, and then it gets confusing.

And I managed to thrash my phone a couple of days ago, just before the weekend. Hoping it will be fixed tomorrow, but anyway no preparation for me this time. And hope they change the highest level task, I have Dark 5 unlocked, and I'm still not going there alone.
