There are presently 15 SOS Challenges, the rewards aren't that great*, but if you're still trying to check off the items on the list, there are some things to think about.
I got stuck forever on the (grumble grumble) Formidable Pixies. ('Defeat 10 Formidable Pixie Foes in Wizarding Challenges' That's part of challenge 12.) I didn't approach it very logically - I should have been hitting Fortress Ruins III and IV - but frankly stopped doing that once they mangled the XP (experience points) a few weeks ago, and (surprise surprise) as a result failed completely to meet the goal. Hmm. Yes. The thing is, challenge 14 needs werewolves, and they're only going to be around for the full moon, so either I needed to get my wand in gear, or wait another month. And given I only saw the one werewolf last full moon, that might mean waiting two more months. (Mind, I haven't seen a single doxy in all the time I've been playing (dawn is still at stupid o'clock here), so the two werewolves probably won't be the limiting factor...)
So I needed three more of those damn Pixies, and in three Fortress battles today managed to get *four* of them by playing Ruins IV with a level I Brilliant Runestone. (Contrary to popular belief, there doesn't seem to be any correlation between the family of the Runestone and the enemies faced. This is another case of Profession making all the difference.) So, yeah, that works. Give it a shot. If you hit Fortresses that are higher, you won't see Formidable Pixies, and if you go too much lower, the chances become slimmer per Runestone. The Professors have an advantage with this one. (Generally you can expect to face foes you are proficient against 60% of the time, and deficient and neutral foes 20% of the time each, which is why Professors have an advantage with encountering Pixies, just like the Aurors had the advantage in the last event in running into Death Eaters to battle. If you can't play Fortresses with someone of the appropriate Profession, you can consider changing your Profession for Fortress runs for the sake of the Challenge.)
I'm not entirely sure why I'm in any kind of rush with the SOS Challenges, though. Challenge 15 requires team play with three teammates. If they don't implement some kind of Floo technology, that's not likely to ever happen for me. 😕
So I was wondering, where are you on the challenges now and where have you gotten stuck in the past?
And I wanted to give you a heads up, the next full moon is 15 August, so you can expect to encounter werewolves within a day or two of it on either side. And as long as we're looking to the heavens... the Perseids Meteor Shower peaks today / tomorrow (13 August). Keep your eyes open for 'shooting stars' and lots of luck to you all. ⭐️🌟💫🍀
* Each SOS Assignment has the same reward. Completing the respective tasks in a set gives 50, 100, and 300 XP. Upon completing all 3 Tasks, players are rewarded 5 Gold and unlock the next SOS Assignment if the level requirement is met. (Somehow I doubt *that's* what's stopping you...)

Date: 2019-08-13 12:33 pm (UTC)I think I'll collect a few of these things (change professions, or the rental cauldron, say) and go back and put it in the 'tips' post. Do you have any ideas or things you've come across that you think I should add?
