What November in HPWU has in store for us... Brilliant Events, Community Day and a second Wizarding Weekend.

[identity profile] gingerbred.livejournal.com
We've had initial reports from the people in Asia who are living in tomorrow that although it was advertised, there will be no reduction in TFTD brew time for the Community Day event Sunday, so be sure to brew what you can / what you'll need on Saturday.

Also I wanted to point out for anyone else that's short on energy, we're required to quaff the Exstimulo potions (any of them, the kind apparently doesn't matter) during a fortress battle, we are not, however, required to use that energy during a fortress challenge, so it's possible to battle lower level fortresses, save the potion for the last shot, return to the map, and use the added boost to your power to help you return the... geez, 70 Foundables tomorrow's event requires. In the first two Chambers, you should generally be able to one shot your foes anyway.

As far as saving energy goes, it's also worth considering, if you aren't a Professor already, taking some of those extra scrolls, red spell books and RSBs you probably have lying around and completing the Professor's lessons to the extent you max the Deterioration Hex. (I did something similar with the Auror's lessons for the last Brilliant Event, because I was sick and tired of wasting all that energy as a Professor fighting Oddities.) The Deterioration Hex, when maxed, will take 40 Stamina from your foe in a fortress battle with each hit he lands on you, and it's possible in two to four rounds to kill a foe in the first two Chambers just by waiting it out and using no energy or potions whatsoever. Obviously if you're fighting with other people, make sure to pull your weight; it's an issue because that approach takes longer. Basically it's okay to use energy on all but the last opponent and allow the Deterioration Hex to sort the last opponent for you. (Managing it that way means you aren't leaving unaddressed foes hanging about in the lobby, thereby tacitly forcing your teammates to take them on for you, and you're only extending the match by a few seconds for the others by drawing things out with your last opponent. Mind, with more foe Stamina, those seconds add up...)

October's more Fortress-centric Community Day takes place tomorrow Sunday 18 October all day from 12:01am till 11:59pm local time. Special Assignments will reward 3 DADA books, 3 Spellbooks, a Silver Key, 40 Gold, 20 Energy, some potions and some ingredients. In the past, there have been issues with Fortress bonuses not being properly received unless a person in an active Community Day time zone enters the Fortress chamber first. (To be on the safe side, it helps to be the first person into the chamber. On the other hand, if the bug persists, it allows us to extend the bonuses as long as someone else enters first.) It's still unclear if this has been fixed or not.

As usual, the ever magnificent OrangeWizard has been so lovely as to make us some infographics with the details and tasks:

Similarly to September's CD Event, that's 70 Foundables we need to return, which for me at least means 3 TFTD and a boatload of energy or a lot of energy and potions. The good news remains that the Tonics will brew much more quickly, but frankly we just had that same perk the day before, and I don't know about you, but I just don't have enough ingredients for that to be much help on back to back days. So yeah, once again, unfortunately that's about it on that front. Especially as that's in addition to 5 Fortress Challenges fought. My complaint about Energy spawns remains as well, and yet again the rewards are pretty paltry compared with August's 5 Spellbooks, 30 Field Guides, 5 Ministry Manuals, 13 Runestones, 100 Gold, 70 Energy, a Potent Exstimulo potion and ingredients.

I'll repeat this in case anyone missed it: the Community manager has said they'll be adjusting part 2 of the Brilliant Event to make it more playable due to rampant complaints about part 1 (and as a Professor, I found it particularly galling), but poorly balanced events like this one aren't exactly making me optimistic. I've already sat this month's Wizarding Weekend out because it was all but unplayable for me, and the rewards simply weren't worth any effort to try to change that. Keep in mind, part 2 of the Brilliant Event is coming up Tuesday, and this is a lot of energy we'll need for... what? At present my strategy is trying to save my energy for the Brilliant Events, because those at least make a difference to my registry. Hmm. All I can say to that is I seriously hope Niantic gets their shit together and looks more closely at balancing some of the game's mechanics, because holy cricket...

Yes, September. You may recall September's Community Day had to be postponed, well now it's time to make up for it. The "September" Community Day takes place Saturday 17 October all day from 12:01am till 11:59pm local time. Special Assignments will reward 3 DADA books, 3 Spellbooks, 5 Runestones, 40 Gold, 20 Energy, some potions and some ingredients. In the past, there have been issues with bonuses not being properly received from Fortresses unless a person in an active Community Day time zone enters the Fortress chamber first. (To be on the safe side, it helps to be the first person into the chamber. On the other hand, if the bug persists, it allows us to extend the bonuses as long as someone else enters first.) Unclear if this bug has been fixed.

And once again, the wonderful OrangeWizard has been so good as to put together infographics with the details and tasks:

Frankly that's 80 Foundables we need to return, which will take me at least 3 TFTD. The good news is the Tonics will brew much more quickly, but unfortunately that's about it for the good news. Ah, and that's in addition to 10 Fortress foes defeated. Energy spawns have been just dismal lately, and the rewards are pretty paltry compared with August's 5 Spellbooks, 30 Field Guides, 5 Ministry Manuals, 13 Runestones, 100 Gold, 70 Energy, a Potent Exstimulo potion and ingredients. The Community manager has said they'll be adjusting part 2 of the Brilliant Event to make it more playable due to rampant complaints about part 1, but the cost : benefit ratio of this CD hasn't got me precisely hopeful, particularly as Sunday is October's CD, and energy will be an issue for many of us, forcing me to conclude with a resounding: meh.

Once again a new month rolls around and the ever lovely Orange Wizard has put together an infographic to keep us up to date on what to expect. This is what October has to offer us:

Good News!

"Great news, witches & wizards! #WizardsUnite will continue in its current form (adjusted for playing at home) until further notice."

So it sounds like we're spared for a bit yet to come. That includes Portkeys with half the distance, energy on the ground, TFTD brewing times halved and 30 spawns per TFTD.
[identity profile] gingerbred.livejournal.com
Supposedly fixes bugs... Some kind souls went ahead and installed it, here's what they had to say:

The following things (at minimum) are not fixed in 2.15.1:
Beam colors
Red dot
Startup error message
Baby Norwegian Ridgeback
Herd immunity node locked from the side
Combat rating after buying an SOS node

List of more here.

Reports of a new bug: some portkeys just go to black screen after opening them and then disappear. Unclear if rewards were given. (It might be a good idea to screenshot vault totals before opening Portkeys just to be on the safe side. (Just the totals should be sufficient if you remember to do it before and after.) If you can clearly quantify the loss (possible ingredients, energy, XP, and possibly in game currencies, depending on which Portkeys) there's always a chance that support will adjust it manually.)

No one seems to know what it did for sure. From the PoGo community, indications are this might be the first step towards reducing the coronavirus changes (in our case: increased energy spawns, TFTD brew times halved, TFTD spawns trebled), we just aren't seeing them play out as yet. Brilliant indeed.

If you want to keep playing, DO NOT UPDATE TO IOS14 until you get a wizards unite app update!

HPWU in its current version will crash on iOS 14. The developers were late and couldn’t roll the fixed update out before iOS14 went live. Do not update to iOS 14 before the new HPWU app update is out, or else you won’t be able to use the app.

This is important because of the Brilliant Event happening right now. They've apparently said the update will be available tomorrow... Here's hoping.

How to turn off auto ios updates:

Open the Settings app and scroll down to the General tab.
* Tap the Software Update tab.
* Tap "Automatic Updates."
* On the next page, toggle the switch off (so it turns white instead of green).

Reverse the process to turn them back on.

ETA: Fixed. The new version of hpwu is available in the app store. Download it and upgrade your iOS.

Next week's Brilliant Event is being postponed, but we're getting a Dragon Week to make up for it. There are some additional changes to the September Events calendar, making the rest of the month rather overcrowded, see below. Read more... )

Warning: the server issues are kicking off again. There are many reports of people stuck in loops now after trying to play fortresses. The recommendation is to avoid them for a little while at least until they give the hamsters running the wheels more treats.

If you're locked out, you can contact Niantic for assistance. niantic.helpshift.com

SEEM TO BE SORTED.

"There was a bug where the Trace Charm sometimes provides duplicate Traces. This fix will be pushed shortly and players will no longer see identical Traces revealed by the Trace Charm." (from Lola of the HPWU team)

The so-called fix may or may not have some issues, and they may have borked it worse than intended. Either way, presently the Trace Charm doesn't behave as it used to. Multiple random traces appear instead of several of one kind.

From our new community manager HPWU LOLA: “We are investigating an issue with players experiencing Connection Lost errors after entering a Fortress or the Knight Bus. Please avoid Wizarding Challenges until we can resolve this. Thank you!”

ETA: and by now you'll have probably seen the in game announcement to this effect. I'm not sure if I'll still be up when they fix it, so just keep your eyes peeled. Now that they've gotten around to acknowledging the bug in the game, I have hopes they'll do the same when it's patched.

This means most of us are gated on Task 2. eh. It's a week long event, so it's a marathon and not a sprint. There are worse things... (like if this holds for the rest of the week... lol)

UPDATE! From HPWU LOLA “Thank you for your patience. We resolved this issue and players can now participate in Wizarding Challenges in Fortresses and the Knight Bus.”

Please restart the app for the fix to take effect.
