Calling all Professors...

I couldn't help noticing a disproportionate number of my friends playing Wizards Unite are Professors, myself included. (Basically I looked at the description of the Auror ('combat veterans who defeat foes by combining their innate leadership with a litany of debilitating spells') and said, 'nope, that's not me.' I'm betting some of you did, too.) Except the thing is, unless you're planning to play with other people *locally*, the way it's set up right now, there's a decent chance we probably should be Aurors instead...

First things first, they've been changing things behind the scenes on the game, tweaking things since the Beta and the release, so there's a chance any or all of this might change, but the way things are *right now*, the deck is stacked against the Professors, more so than the other two professions. Worth noting: you can change professions at any time, but all the scrolls and books you've used to achieve your skill level are lost to you in your new profession. (But on the upside, though, you can change back and your achievements are still there.)

There are a number of different problems facing Professors.

For one thing, it seemed like a Roshambo / Rock-Paper-Scissors set up. Aurors are better against Dark Forces and weaker against Beasts. Magizoologists are strong against Beasts and weak against Curiosities. And the Professors are stronger against Curiosities and weaker against Dark Forces. Fair enough. So far so good. Everyone has a strength and a weakness. The issue here is Curiosities don't appear in anywhere near the same frequency as Beasts and Dark Forces do, and *when* they do, it's more likely to be at night. So *I'm* not encountering them often at all. Are you?

The next issue is how the characters are used. Basically Aurors are good in a fight on their own. On the other hand, Magizoologists ('focus on healing and helping their teammates') and Professors ('use their superior magical knowledge to debilitate foes while also supporting their teammates') take more of a supporting role. So again, if you don't have people locally to play with (*so* not happening for me) then that's an unnecessary handicap and a decision worth revisiting.

And now the final and most significant problem. To gain more skills in your profession, you trade scrolls, books, and green books for more proficiency. [Suitcase > Profession > Lessons > Principles of Professorship] Those green books, also known as Restricted Section Books, are currently *only* available as rewards from Brilliant Event tasks. If the Beta run of the event is anything to go by, you could expect to earn about *fifteen* Restricted Section Books from completing *all* the Brilliant Event tasks.

That's not going to get you far at all.

That can change, obviously, but it isn't great when a thing you *need* is in such short supply.

Further, Aurors and Magizoologists both currently only require 115 of those books to max out their skill lessons. Professors, by depressing contrast, need 223 green books to achieve the same.

So unless some pretty serious tweaking happens very soon...

My suggestion is for Professors to hold off cashing in any further scrolls, books, and especially those rare green books until after the Brilliant Event is over (that's less than five days), and we have a chance to see if they've adjusted the numbers substantially. If they haven't, at that point, it's probably worth taking the stash of supplies and investing them towards becoming an Auror.
